A topographic or detail survey records existing site conditions so your design team can plan from measured information. It can support a new home, extension, development, drainage design or landscaping project.

The scope may include ground levels and contours, buildings and structures, trees, fences, walls, driveways, paths and visible service or drainage features. Boundary and easement information can be included where required and agreed.

What should the scope include?
Agree the area to survey, features and levels needed, contour requirements, datum, boundary information and any adjoining detail requested by the designer. Typical visible features can include structures, fences, trees, paths and surface drainage within the agreed extent.

What will the designer receive?
Confirm PDF, DWG, DXF or other agreed outputs before fieldwork. Supply the architect’s or engineer’s brief so data extent and format suit the intended design. Detail/contour surveying and full boundary re-establishment are different tasks.

Understand the limits
Visible service features do not establish the position of all underground services. Specialist investigation may be needed separately. A survey provides site information and does not itself secure a development or building approval.
